How to get Started - Snyk’s New Starter Content

Snyk is a global software producer, specialising in tools and security that help developers. We were hired by Snyk to create a series of product videos for new starters. They wanted four videos, each of which would specialise in showcasing their 4 products in an innovative and creative way, so that new employees could learn the ins and outs of the different products on offer. Whilst we were filming these, Snyk requested another project from us; Snyk Stories. The idea was to film casual interviews with their existing staff members, asking them how they felt about the workplace, things they loved about working for Snyk, and any funny stories or anecdotes they wanted to share.
Challenges
Our greatest task was taking all of the raw footage and creating 3 videos that had both a structure and humour. The edit process was not totally straightforward as we could only build structure from the answers we had filmed, rather than recording the footage around an original idea.
Job Done
We cut the staff testimonials down into a catalogue of videos that worked both individually and in a set. Each video was between 3-4 minutes long and included customised motion graphics, colour grading and lots of references to popular culture that reflected on the environment the staff were so enthusiastically reflecting on.
Implemented Features
Planning and Pre-Production
We worked with the client to tailor scripts that could be visually entertaining, whilst also explaining the finer points of each product. Simultaneously, we were storyboarding and planning shoot layouts for each scripted video to ensure a quicker and smoother production.
On the Day
We filmed over the course of four days with multiple actors and Snyk employees. Pre-planning a shot list and storyboard was particularly helpful for this shoot, as it sped up the filming process exponentially.
Working with the Team
We made sure the team members felt comfortable with our presence and started recording from the moment they entered the room, to ensure we caught every possible moment of interaction.
Video Creation
The videos were edited in Adobe premiere pro and after effects. The editing of Snyk Stories was a little more complex, as we were letting the content lead the story, rather than the other way round.
Outcome
Tower View Media planned, filmed and edited the clients videos for internal release. The videos were well received by the client, with the board of directors giving the videos a round of applause on initial viewings.
